چکیده

Decentralised, event-driven distributed simulation is particularly suitable for modelling systems with inherent asynchronous parallelism, such as agentbased systems. However the efficient simulation of multi-agent systems presents particular challenges which are not addressed by standard parallel discrete event simulation (PDES) models and techniques. PDES approaches based on the logical process paradigm assume a fixed decomposition into processes, each of which maintains its own portion of the state of the simulation. The interaction between the processes is fixed in advance and does not change during the simulation. In contrast, simulations of MAS typically have a large shared state, the agents’ environment, which is only loosely associated with any particular process. In this paper, we present a model of the shared state of a distributed MAS simulation of situated agents. We consider the problems of efficient sensing, parallel actions and action conflicts, and present preliminary work on an approach to the simulation of the environment which addresses these issues.

A Simulation Modelling Tool for Distributed Virtual

21 Distributed Virtual Environments simulate the behaviour and activities of a great number of users 22 interacting in a virtual world over a wide area network. The size of the virtual worlds and the 23 tremendous number of users that these environments are called to support require additional 24 bandwidth and computational resources. For supporting large-scale Distributed Virtual 25 Environmen...

Modelling of Cylindrical Contact Theories ‎of Hertz and JKR for the Manipulation of ‎Biological Micro/Nanoparticles

This paper deals with the development and modeling of cylindrical contact theories and also the simulation of contact forces to be applied in the manipulation of various biological micro/nanoparticles by means of the AFM. First, the simulation of contact forces in four environments has been carried out, which are the most commonly used fluid in biomanipulation. Then, the spherical and cy...

An introduction to the hydrological modelling system PREVAH and its pre- and post-processing-tools

Spatially distributed modelling is an important instrument for studying the hydrological cycle, both concerning its present state as well as possible future changes in climate and land use. Results of such simulations are particularly relevant for the fields of water resources, natural hazards and hydropower. The semi-distributed hydrological modelling system PREVAH (PREecipitation-Runoff-EVApo...

Designing Standards for Open Simulation Environments in the Chemical Industries: A Computer- Supported Use-Case Approach

Under the double pressures of global competition and increasing environmental awareness, the importance of high-performance simulation tools in the process industries (food, chemicals, oil, ...) is rapidly growing. However, traditional simulation environments are closed monolithic systems which are extensible only by a small group of marketleading vendors. The resulting bottlenecks in interoper...
